How to Measure Countertops

In order to obtain a bid for your granite countertops, you must measure your kitchen or vanity countertop. Accurate measuring will be very important to the fabricator that you work with. The more information that you give them, the more accurate your proposal will be. Again, this will be a proposal based on your measurements. When a fabricator visits your home, they do the measuring and come back later to establish a template, which will be the final numbers used for square footage.

Get some paper and a tape measure and begin measuring at a corner of your kitchen or vanity countertop. Continue around the room until you get back to your starting point. Please mark on the drawings where your main sink, veggie sink, stove or cook top, and refrigerator are placed.

Make sure to write down the measurement for the length both for the front and the back. Write down the measurement for the depth of the countertop starting from the wall to the edge of the countertop.

What is Quartzite, it’s Advantages & Disadvantages Quartzite is a natural metamorphic rock that starts out as sandstone and evolves over time under intense heat and pressure that makes it a dense, hard rock. It is then fused with resins, polymers and pigments and quarried and cut into slabs. It is rated #7 on the Mohs Hardness Scale.   Advantages: It is hard. It is beautiful like marble, with natural swirling and veining, but without the softness. Easy to Clean. Caution: It must be sealed first in order to easily clean. Avoid abrasives, as they will break down the sealant exposing the porous material and cause it to stain. It is also resistant to chemicals. Because it is natural, each stone is one-of-a-kind. It is UV resistant, it won’t fade when exposed to natural light. It won’t etch. Real Quartzite, not so called “soft” quartzite, which isn’t quartzite at all, is resistant to acids like lemons.
